NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences is a foundation that is managed by the Executive Board (CvB). On a daily basis, our three-member Executive Board is committed to the mission of the University of Applied Sciences: working on global innovation. This is basis of the unique educational concept of Design Based Education, our distinctly international profile and ground breaking research within our three socially-relevant focal points: Vital RegionsSmart Sustainable Industries and Service Economy. We do this with one goal in mind: achieving the highest possible quality of education and research. Below you will find out how each member of the Executive Board contributes to this.

Erica

Ir. Erica Schaper MBA: External profiling, internationalisation and strategy

“Making an impact with world-class education and research.”

Erica Schaper has been chairperson of the board of NHL Stenden since October 2017; just before the administrative merger of the NHL and Stenden. A wonderful challenge for the board member who is inspired by these kinds of major change processes.

Erica is fully committed to inclusive education, research that has a global impact and a strong connection with the regions in which our University of Applied Sciences is located. She does this while always considering the people and the world around us.

Oscar

Prof. Dr. O. (Oscar) Couwenberg Education and research policy

“Education and research that has an added value for society.”

Oscar Couwenberg has been a member of the Executive Board of NHL Stenden since 1 August 2020. His portfolio is concerned with education and research. In addition, his background as a lecturer, researcher and director at the University of Groningen comes in handy.

He strives for the perfect balance of making our education and research relevant in real world practice, so that our regions will teem with knowledge development. He himself contributes quite a bit to this, because in addition to his position at NHL Stenden, Oscar remains active as an honorary professor at the RUG Campus Fryslân.

Marc Otto

Drs. M.T. (Marc) Otto MPM Operations

“Offer our students and staff a great time.”

Marc Otto has been a member of the Executive Board of our college since 1 August 2020. Previously, he worked as a director of the Deltion College in Zwolle and of LMC Secondary Education. Marc strives to offer our students a fantastic time in a lively environment during their education.

According to him, the best quality of education can only be achieved if you are also the best employer. That touches all aspects of business operations, of which Marc is portfolio holder. That is why he is constantly committed to good development opportunities and an inspiring working environment.
