Communication & Multimedia Design course overview

The first year begins broadly and the emphasis is on discovering your talents and interests. You do this by creating designs very intensively and focused. At CMD International you discover a lot by yourself and consult with teachers about what you want to learn. You’ll work on real-life assignments, so don’t expect long days in the classroom. You’ll be getting straight down to work with your project group on the real stuff.
During the main phase (years 2, 3 and 4) you will be involved in assignments and projects in that centre around broadening and deepening your knowledge and skills.
The projects are linked to the minors you choose. You can let the social interest play a role in this choice; think, for example, of games against bullying or a chat app for the mentally handicapped. You also give direction to your professional profile, working with students from different years.
At CMD International you work independently and in multidisciplinary project teams. You work together with teachers and fellow students from different years in communities. This creates a close-knit club in which everyone has each other’s back. Together with your community, you organize lectures, discuss work, invite guest lecturers or prepare excursions.
In the 3rd year you have to choose one of the following minors:
- Game Development & 3D
- Concepting
- Entrepreneurship
- The Next Web
- Visual Storytelling
- Art 'n' Sound
- Sustainable Design Solutions
You can also take minors given by other NHL Stenden degree programmes.
In the third year, you do a five-month internship. You will find the internship yourself in consultation with the internship coordinator, choosing a place that suits your multimedia ambitions.
- Day of the Image
- Talk Nerdy To Me (event about new web applications)
- Video nerds (www.videonerds.nl)
- CMD Next
- CMD Awards
- Incubators for entrepreneurship (students get the opportunity to start their own business!)
