Community Based Tourism (Thailand)

Developing tourism concepts in local communities

More and more tourists are seeking cultural, authentic and ‘meaningful’ experiences during their travels. Would you like to work in this type of tourism and at the same time contribute to the development of local communities? Then the minor Community Based Tourism is the right choice for you.

The first weeks of lectures concern sustainable tourism. After that, you will go into the field to work on developing tourism products in a small village in the north of Thailand. You will live with a host family and experience how the locals live.

  • Gain an exceptional learning experience in a unique, traditional culture.
  • Develop leadership qualities.
  • Learn a different perspective on life.
  • Improve your scientific writing skills by working on a research report.

This minor subject is worth 15 ECTS and is offered in English in Thailand. The course concludes with the development of a tourism product, a research report, and a portfolio of your personal development.
