Train to Assen (from Leeuwarden/Groningen)
The train to Assen will depart 4 times per 60 minutes. starting from 05h07 until 23h24.
The journey will take about 1h15. You will need to get out in Groningen to get on the next train which will bring you to Assen. Please keep in mind that the train from Groningen to Assen is a train with more destinations. Be aware that you have to get out in Assen because the train will continue to travel to Zwolle or Den Haag.
At Leeuwarden station, the train will normally depart from platform 6b or 8. Both trains will have their last stop in Groningen. At the Groningen station, the train will normally depart from platform 3b, 4b or 6b. This is a maximum of 2 minutes walking.
We recommend you download the 'NS Reis planner app'. Here you always have the up-to-date travel information. You can change the language from Dutch to English, by doing the following:
- Select: “Meer”
- Select: “Instellingen”
- Select: “Taal” and select English.
Train to Assen (from Zwolle)
The train to Assen will depart 4 times per 60 minutes, starting from 05h52 until 00h49.
The journey will take about 50 minutes. Please keep in mind that the train from Zwolle to Assen is a train with more destinations. Be aware that you have to get out in Assen because the train will continue to travel to Groningen. At Zwolle station the train will normally depart from platform 6 or 14.

If you decide to travel by car to Assen, you can park in the parking lot of “Podium Zuidhaege”. Please make sure to keep your parking ticket with you, because to get out you will be needing this ticket.

Parking is available at the parking lot of Podium Zuidhaege.
Assen is a central location where various government services are located, such as the police, the army, and the District Court of North Netherlands. We are close to the professional field to work on current and regional themes. Together with them and the region's industry, our students work on various real-life issues. The professorship Cybersafety is also based here. They conduct research on how governments can work more safely online.
