The minor Cruise Management 1 is obligatory for all students, who want to participate in Cruise Management 2 since it builds up on the students’ prior knowledge from CM1. The second module of Cruise Management gives the student the possibility to gain practical experience while going on a cruise ship for about 7 days. In addition students are required to perform qualitative and quantitative research projects in relation to the cruise industry.

After participating in CM II, students should be able to:


  • Understand the differences between quantitative and a qualitative research
  • Differentiate between relevant and irrelevant topics (problem statement and research objectives) in context with the cruise industry.
  • Design relevant probing questions.


  • Understand the process of embarking and disembarking a cruise ship.
  • Understand the overall operation of a cruise ship.
  • Explain the relations between the different departments on a cruise ship.
  • Understand the relevance of shore excursions for passengers and for the company.
  • Understand the importance of on-board revenue on a cruise ship.
  • Understand the daily activities of one of the departments on board.

Cruise Field trip. It is also possible to participate within the minor without doing the field trip
The investment for the field trip will be approximately between 1000 and 1500 euro’s
