Photos are essential for good communication to illustrate the message, to report on an event, to convey emotions or to make abstract matters clear.
The minor focuses on photography as a medium for storytelling. You learn both the technical side and the theoretical side. There is focus on visual language in which you learn to look, assess and evaluate photographs. You do this by photographing a lot, learning theories and looking at photography with a professional eye.
Structure of the minor
In the minor you work for clients for which you create professional photo productions. You learn how to take photograph on location and in our state-of-the-art photo studios. To do this, you follow lectures about the technique, production and processing of photos and lectures that relate to photography as a means of communication. To increase your knowledge, you also attend lectures on visual analysis and the history of photography.
You work simultaneously on your personal (style) development and technical skills. At the end of the minor you will have a portfolio with your own work that shows who you are as a photographer and what you can do.
If you're going to study at NHL Stenden, then you'll get to use our unique educational concept, Design-Based Education (DBE). We believe it's important that you are exposed to the practical problems in your chosen fields right from the start and that you work on current, real-life issues. You work on these issues in Ateliers, groups that bring together students, from different backgrounds and industry professionals. Together we create a learning environment in which you develop as a person and a professional. An environment in which you are known and your achievements recognized.
