Dynamic Positioning Revalidation

Short course

After five years a DP certificate needs to be renewed. For a renewal or revalidation of an existing certificate, 150 DP sea time days are required. If sufficient days are not obtained, this course will extend your current certificate for another five years (if attending for the first time).

Course duration and dates

The duration of the course is 5 days, from Monday 9.00am until Friday 11.30am. The course DP Revalidation is scheduled to take place on:

  • 26  –  30 November 2018
  • 21  –  25 January 2019
  • 01  –  05 April 2019
  • 08  –  12 July 2019

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement is a DPO certificate issued by The Nautical Institute. This course may be completed up to 6 months before the revalidation date set by The NI and will be valid for a period of 12 months only.

If the participant is completing the course for the first time, there is no minimum DP sea time requirement. If the participant is completing the course for a second or subsequent time, a minimum of 28 days DP sea time will be required to revalidate.

Course fee

The DP Revalidation course fee is € 2475,- (exempt from VAT) including lunch, coffee and tea, excluding travel and subsistence expenses.

Course contents

You will work with practical scenarios based on real operations. Furthermore, you will train on planning and executing specified operations under varying simulated conditions. During the operations, you will face typical DP failure modes. This course also focuses on communication with field control, other vessels, and the different departments onboard. To make sure that you will act in different roles during the course.

Course contents

The DP Sea Time Reduction course covers the following:

  • Study of DP incidents.
  • Construction and use of worksite diagrams, Electronic Charts and Vessel templates for use in DP operations.
  • Preparation of plans for a projected DP operation, contingency plans for expected deviations and emergencies.
  • Participation in simulated situations in a variety of DP operations while handling routine and emergency situations.
  • Risk and safety analysis, and defining DP equipment classes.
  • The DP system’s utilization of position measurements.
  • New development in DP systems.

Certification
