Education, research and internationalisation in a European context with a focus on the region

RUN-EU (Regional University Network - European University) is a network of eight European higher education institutions in which NHL Stenden is a partner. The official kick-off of RUN-EU took place on November 24th: the launch of a brand new European University.

Education, research and mobility

Over the next three years, RUN-EU will focus on implementing the work programme linked to a grant, as part of the European Universities Initiative, KA2 Erasmus+. The work programme focuses on roughly 3 pillars: education, research and mobility in the European context.

In the coming months, RUN-EU will start mapping out the network's joint education and research portfolio. On the basis of this first inventory, it will become clear where the opportunities lie for jointly developing new education and research programmes. A mobility matrix and the establishment of a RUN-EU Mobility Strategy will also be initiated. Within this strategy, new forms of live and virtual mobility for students, teachers and researchers will be made possible.

Opportunities for all levels and forms of education

These opportunities for mobility at European level are increasingly being offered at all levels and within all forms of education (full-time, part-time, flex, ‘dual’), taking into account different target groups, e.g. young adults and professionals (including upskilling and reskilling). In addition, RUN-EU offers NHL Stenden the opportunity to accelerate the internationalisation of education and research programmes that have traditionally not yet been internationalised.

Focus on the region

The focus on the region is what binds all the partners in this consortium, as well as the challenges facing the regions. RUN-EU therefore works closely with associate partners in the 8 regions represented in the network, such as the Province of Friesland, CEW/Water Campus, Dutch Tech Zone, Innovation Pact Friesland, Tourism Collective Friesland and Circular Friesland. Education and research programmes will therefore be developed in close coordination with these partners.
