Dr Marco Mazereeuw Ph.D. carries out research into practice-based learning, hybrid learning environments and the development of versatility amongst professionals. He is associate lector at the Agile Craftsmanship professorships and the Sustainable School Development professorships.

“I started my career as a teacher of biology, physics and chemistry at individual preparatory vocational level ((i)vbo), which later was called lower secondary professional education or vmbo. As of 1999, I combined this role with a teacher training post at the science department of NHL University of Applied Sciences. When in 2004 I become a full-time teacher trainer, I started to delve deeper into STEM didactics. This interest resulted in a doctoral research at the Freudenthal Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (FIsme), which I completed in 2013.”

“My thesis looked at the question of how internships and lessons could be organised at schools in such a way that pupils would learn to appreciate the importance of scientific knowledge for businesses. I detailed this specifically for biological knowledge in the livestock industry.

Development of versatility

“These days I am associate lector at the Versatile Expertise and Sustainable School Development professorships. I am also a practical research lecturer at the BINASK and Vakmasters teams. The research in which I am involved as associate lector continues to fit in well with my doctoral research. I now research practice-based learning, hybrid learning environments and, as you would expect, the development of versatility amongst professionals. As a practical research lecturer, I support students in their research as well as carry out my own research into learning concepts and meaning in science education.”
