Aaltsje Malda is a researcher within the Healthcare & Innovation in Psychiatry professorship, where she is involved in research into early detection, oral health and serious gaming.

Between 2008 and 2010, Aaltsje Malda worked as a psychologist in the GGZ Friesland’s Early Psychosis Intervention (VIP, Vroege Interventie Psychose) team. She completed her GZ-psychologist (health psychologist) training at the University of Groningen. Since 2010, she has been working as a GZ-psychologist on the VIP team, of which the Early Detection Team forms a part. Both teams work on a provincial level.

In addition to her work as a clinical psychologist, Aaltsje has been carrying out PhD research on a part-time basis at the University of Groningen since 2013. Her research is on the negative symptoms and functioning in young people who have an increased risk of developing psychosis. Within the Healthcare & Innovation in Psychiatry lectorate, she is involved in research into oral health and serious gaming, in addition to her research in the field of early detection.
