Researcher Asli Boru describes her research as a brainteaser, a real puzzle. Fortunately, she loves puzzles. The theme of her research is the role of the stakeholder in the development and implementation of new technologies and products in health care. In this way, she aims to support stakeholders better in the development of innovations in care for the elderly.

“I have worked as both industrial designer and project manager in Turkey and Germany. During my time there, I have helped to design a wide range of new products that were brought onto the market. One such example is the bottle of the famous Turkish alcoholic drink Yeni Raki. In 2006, I was selected by the Red Dot Design Center as one of the most promising young designers. Afterwards, I became involved in teaching modules of courses in Japan, Switzerland and Germany.”

“As part of the pilot project 'Learning from Japan: A Rapidly Ageing Society', I visited Tokyo. At the moment, I am a PhD student at the Department of Industrial Design, where I obtained my Master’s degree in Strategic Product Design in 2012.”

Improving health

“Innovation in a Health Care System is a fascinating subject for two reasons: innovation is a complex process and the world of health care is equally complex. My research was and still is a real brainteaser, similar to solving puzzles whereby the elements form the missing pieces. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love solving puzzles?”

“My goal is to improve people’s health and lives. I want to do this by bringing new technologies onto the market that make it possible to understand the relationships between the various interested parties in the innovation process. When an interested party is impacted by the innovation I call them stakeholders, as they have either something to gain or lose from the new innovation. I try to understand where and how these parties influence one another. When and how this process goes well, and when it doesn’t."
