Within the Frisian and Multilingualism lectorate, drs. Roelien Bos-Wierda focuses on social media and Communities of Practice, particularly when it comes to informal language acquisition. She conducts research into the manner in which effective multilingual and CLIL didactics can be given form through a safe Social Media platform (MySchoolsNetwork).

After graduating in English Language and Literature, Roelien Bos-Wierda first worked for 10 years as an English teacher in both the upper and lower classes of higher general secondary education (HAVO) and pre-university education (VWO). After this, her work included English teaching methodology lecturer at the first- and second-degree programmes in teacher education of the NHL Stenden. In addition, Roelien has also been chairman of the working group whose task it was to develop competence-based education in the Languages department.

Through her interest in innovative didactics, the last few years Roelien has been looking at the role that ICT and new media can play in the learning process of both young pupils and students. Together with Ron Barendsen, she coordinated activities of the InnovationLab. This is a supporting unit within the NHL Stenden, which works on the practical implementation of innovation and internationalisation within education.

Since 2010, she has been content project manager of the MySchoolsNetwork project, which in 2012 was awarded the European Language Label for the most innovative education project in the area of language and digitalisation.
