Iris Rosier is passionate about health, technology and innovation. These interests are combined in her position as project leader of eHealth & Innovation at the Professorship (applied sciences) Care & Innovation in Psychiatrics, her role as a lecturer in the master Digital Innovation in Care and Well-being, and her activities as innovator in Jamzone’s inspiration lab in Leeuwarden. “A world where psychology and technology meet is more than just work to me.”

“After finishing the Communication and Information Studies programme at the University of Groningen, I started out in the field of communication. I soon found out that my heart and future were drawn towards the digital world, so I started focusing more on technology and product development. During this process, I have always benefited from my background in marketing and communication.”

Innovation in mental healthcare

“Ever since 2007, I have been focusing on the development of e-Mental Health, in cooperation with the Trimbos institute, the World Health Organization, and many other organisations, institutes and companies from the field. In conjunction with my activities at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, I spend my days in Jamzone’s innovation lab in Leeuwarden. At Jamzone, we work on mental health innovations in cooperation with a range of parties and students.”

Multidisciplinary teams

My work focuses on the translation of science and proven intervention concepts to meaningful and relevant user experiences. I like to do this by working together with designers, developers, students, researchers, institutes, organisations and the end users themselves.”

A link between worlds

“I have a passion for health, technology and innovation. A world where psychology and technology meet is more than just work to me. Both fields hold my interest to great extent, so I enjoy bringing these two together. I am convinced that, in mental healthcare, we can reach and help more people by using technology.”

Connecting with the end user

“A solution can only be successful when it meets the needs of the target audience and if it works in practice. A product can only become relevant and meaningful to an end user if it connects with them in a natural way and only if the end product is well designed and user-friendly. This connection is followed by the challenge of implementing the product in practice. Careful and thoughtful implementation is paramount to the success of the product, and sadly, this element is often overlooked in practice.

The perfect triangle

“During my time at the Trimbos Institute, it was mainly the bottom part of the triangle that was solid: substantive research and entrepreneurship work in tandem there. Especially concerning the functionality and effectiveness of e-Mental Health products. Because of my work at both NHL Stenden and Jamzone, the triangle has been completed; Jamzone allows me to be entrepreneurial and I can apply this practical knowledge in my work at NHL Stenden as a lecturer at the Digital Innovation in Care and Well-being. I tick the box for research at both Jamzone and NHL Stenden. Ultimately, at the centre of the triangle, there is room for innovation.”
