Honours Programme
The Honours Programme is an extracurricular initiative designed for students who are open-minded, curious, and eager to go the extra mile. It provides a stimulating environment and a supportive community within NHL Stenden for students who seek opportunities beyond their regular study programme. The aim is to foster both personal and professional growth, expanding and/or deepening your expertise and skills in a way that complements your studies. By participating, you will develop competencies that extend beyond the scope of your academic discipline.
Practical Information
Sessions take place every Wednesday afternoon from 3 PM onwards.
The programme consists of seven modules, each covering a different topic.
The first and last modules are fixed.
Each module runs for 9 to 10 weeks.
There is always some form of assessment.
Completing the programme allows you to earn 30 extra ECTS credits.
Modules
This module focuses on self-awareness, understanding others, and exploring diverse perspectives on society. You will learn to critically examine your own and others’ viewpoints through analysis and dialogue. Additionally, you will develop intercultural competencies by engaging with different perspectives, gaining insight into your worldview, values, and their significance.
Why do people have different values and standards? Why does one person perceive something as good while another sees it as bad? Ethics and philosophy help explain these differences. This module introduces key philosophical movements and explores how different ways of thinking shape ethical perspectives.
The world around us is constantly evolving. In this module, you will learn how to analyse current events from multiple perspectives, including environmental, social, and political angles. You will develop the skills to critically assess these issues from both a personal and professional standpoint.
How can social sciences help us better understand societal developments? How do individuals and groups influence each other? What makes something familiar and acceptable, and how does socialisation shape our behaviours? This module explores these fundamental questions through the lens of social sciences.
Art reflects the norms and values of society. In this module, you will explore various art forms and examine how they represent and are perceived within different cultures. What can art reveal about our society? Through this exploration, you will gain a deeper understanding of cultural expression and its societal impact.
The term innovation is frequently used, but what does it truly mean? In this module, you will explore the concept of innovation and learn how to apply it to optimise processes, services, and products. You will also engage in a structured design process to develop innovative solutions. This module allows you to work with one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to create your own innovation project.
After completing the first six modules, it’s time for the grand finale: the Apotheosis. In this concluding module, you will develop your own portfolio and design a final project that integrates the knowledge and insights gained throughout the programme.
