Inhoud van de minor

The Doing Business in China minor revolves around immersing yourself fully in Chinese business culture. What makes Chinese customers tick? What trends and developments can be observed in China? How to develop and launch a product that meets a need in the Chinese market? How to develop a proper HR policy and arrange legal issues compatible with Chinese practices?  These are just some of the questions that will be explored during this minor to support you in conducting your feasibility research. 

You will learn first-hand from industry and academic experts during various visits to Chinese and international companies operating in China. You will visit Shanghai, China’s business capital, and several other places to experience Chinese business culture up close and personal. In addition, you will follow Chinese language (Mandarin) and culture classes to allow you to get the most of your experience in Dongguan, both personally and professionally.

Opzet van de minor

The Doing Business in China minor consists of three main units: Business Strategy in China (6 ECs), Chinese language and culture (6 ECs) and Intercultural proficiency in China (3 ECs). 

The aim is for you to become fully immersed in Chinese culture. For the Business Strategy unit you will collaborate intensively with students from Dongguan University of Technology in exploring the Chinese market and conducting extensive market research. To support all units, you will visit a range of companies and attend academic and business presentations from experts on doing business in the dynamic and fast-paced Chinese market. 

Toetsing

The assessment is arranged in accordance with the three units and includes a range of reports, reflective assignments and presentations.  Unit 1: consultancy report (feasibility study) and presentation  Unit 2: written and oral exam  Unit 3: reflective report 

Toelatingseisen

This minor is open to all students studying in a business or management-related programme. Solid knowledge of English is needed. This minor will allow students to gain a thorough understanding of the Chinese economy and culture. This is beneficial for any future business professional considering China’s ascendency to becoming the world’s largest economy. They will also work intensively together with Chinese students, which will allow them to develop their intercultural and collaborative skills requiring adaptability and social resilience.
