“Hospitality is in my heart, and my journey so far reflects that. My name is Albert Stoica, 20 years old and currently in my second year of the Hospitality Management bachelor's program. Originally from Romania, I've been in Leeuwarden since I started my bachelor's. At Student Stay, that offers accommodation for international students in particular, I've found a welcoming community, and I'm dedicated to helping international students integrate with the local population. I feel right at home here.”
Hospitality
“My love for hospitality blossomed thanks to having travelled a lot with KLM as a child. I'd always noticed how friendly and helpful the staff were. This led me to the Hotel Management School Leeuwarden, where I discovered that hospitality is my passion. In team projects, I strive to highlight everyone's strengths, much like in a well-coordinated team in the aviation industry.”
Coffee corner
“During my first year of the bachelor's programme, I got the chance to gain practical experience in the coffee bar, where I worked as the financial manager. Soon, the coffee corner felt like my second home. I even went there when it wasn't necessary. As a member of the coffee bar team, I contributed to bringing this place to life. My goal was simple: attract people to the coffee corner, let them enjoy a warm cup of coffee or tea, and momentarily set aside their worries. My aim was to bring a smile to our guests' faces, something we call ‘hostmanship’ at our hotel school.”
Thinking like a leader
“With 19 years of basketball experience, I've learned that "if you're a leader, you have eyes like a hawk." You're always thinking one step ahead. I’m the person who anticipates mistakes and prevents them, so as to ensure our team perform at its best. I also love playing basketball with my fellow students from Student Stay in Leeuwarden. It's great to share my passion and build new friendships.”
Dreams and goals
“What does the future hold? I'm considering an exchange abroad to learn more about human resource management or event organisation. I also aspire to further develop my leadership skills. After completing my studies, I plan to work as a steward for an airline for two years. Then, I would like to pursue a master's degree. My ultimate goal is to become a general manager in a hotel, where I can implement positive changes. There's one thing in particular I'd like to change in hotels; to allow dogs! Dogs create a unique atmosphere!”
