“I've lived in the Netherlands for two years now and I'm having a great time! I'm in my second year and I've taken on a side job at the University Participation Council where I represent the international students at NHL Stenden. It’s such a rewarding role that allows me to put what I’m learning into practice. I’ve made some awesome friends, and I'm getting to learn two or even three languages, choosing from Spanish, German, and French, alongside Dutch and English. I love that it gives me intercultural experiences, which will definitely help in my future career. NHL Stenden is really focused on promoting diversity and internationalisation. And I can clearly see that from my experience studying here.”
From near and far
“The programme was just what I thought it would be, thanks to the in-depth research I did. You're constantly surrounded by new things – socially, culturally, and physically. If you choose European Studies, you can expect a truly unique experience and a warm welcome as you'll meet tonnes of people from all over the world. Personally, the international aspect is the most interesting and exciting part of the programme. I can’t wait to do a semester abroad in my third year as there is so much choice. Over 150 universities in over 40 countries! If that’s not something for you, you can also do a traineeship or take advantage of opportunities through the RUN-EU partnership. I see these options as a great reflection of NHL Stenden’s values.”
A brighter future
“I like that assignments are connected to the modern labour market and the changes it faces. All my projects focus on important topics, such as The Green Deal and the 2024 European Parliament elections, and on creating a product like a policy brief or a political party’s campaign.”
“I’m not sure yet about my future plans. but I’m hoping an internship in my fourth year will help guide me. I’d like to do a master’s in international relations, probably somewhere in Europe. What I do know is that I want to use the knowledge and skills I’ve picked up at NHL Stenden to help my home country, Ukraine, in a global context. Despite the difficulties that my country is going through right now, I believe in a more promising future and I want to be a part of building that future.”
