“It's crucial to engage actively, not just simply focus on your studies. Instead, consider how you can become an integral part of both the hotel school and the broader community. This approach will significantly enhance your overall experience.”
From Berlin to Vienna
“My story started in Berlin, but I am currently in Vienna doing my final 10-month internship. I was interested in getting to know more about the world of hospitality consulting. And why Vienna, you might ask? Well, I believe in going big, or in this case, going international. My consultancy traineeship involves everything from researching feasibility studies to conceptualising new hotels. The chances that you can take on opportunities abroad are so exciting.”
School engagement
“But I'm not just about work; I'm a dedicated student and a passionate school supporter. During my studies at the Hotel Management School in Leeuwarden, I started at the operational part (1st year), and then took on managerial roles in later years (2nd and 3rd year). I'm not just here for the diploma: I'm here to make a difference. My enthusiasm to get involved in school activities is huge and I'm the living proof that studying can be a lot more than just a degree.”
Real-world learning
“I value the real-world learning experience, where we work with actual clients, providing a taste of what it's like in the industry. And I've really appreciated the opportunities we get to contribute actively to the school, such as organising the study start week and assisting with other projects. Together with my peers, I also celebrated victory at the Young Talent Awards in Paris. It was a global competition between hotel schools from across the world that Leeuwarden won! These experiences allow me to become more deeply involved with the school, and I genuinely enjoy every moment of it.”
Leeuwarden: the perfect student city
“During my first year, I shared a house in Leeuwarden with five other people, and we all moved in at the same time. This was good as it fostered strong bonds within the group, and I still maintain close contact with them to this day.”
“I love Leeuwarden as a student city because of its ideal size and bike-friendly layout. It's easy to get around, meet up with friends and enjoy your time. The city offers a well-balanced mix of clubs, restaurants and bars to keep you entertained. It's a charming place, quite different from my hometown Berlin, which is known for its wild party scene! Leeuwarden, in comparison, has a more intimate and cozier atmosphere. I have enjoyed my time in Leeuwarden, and it has been the best decision I've ever made to attend Hotel Management School Leeuwarden.”
