“Ever since I was little, I’d dreamed of moving abroad, and for some reason, something was telling me I should try the Netherlands. When I started exploring universities, NHL Stenden captured my attention with its unique Design-Based Education approach and focus on sustainability. I felt in my heart that it was the right choice, and looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Getting accepted was such a proud moment for me – I couldn’t wait to start this new chapter as an international student.”
“When I started in September 2023, I didn’t really know what to expect beyond the basics of the programme. But as the year went on, things began to fall into place. I’ve been surprised by how much I’ve learned and how practical the programme is – having the opportunity to work with real clients in the leisure industry has made a huge difference. The creative approach is also enjoyable, especially when we’re encouraged to think outside the box and when designing posters or presentations in Canva!”
Running towards new opportunities
“My favourite part of the degree so far has been RUN-EU. I have participated in several Short Advanced Programmes (SAPs), and I’m also a member of the RUN-EU Student Council, which has regular meetings to discuss key topics and future steps. What I like most about this initiative is the chance to connect with students and universities across Europe. The SAPs allow you to spend a week studying at a partner university where you work on a specific topic or project with people from different universities, not just your own. It’s a great way to build new skills, collaborate with others, and tackle real-world challenges. RUN-EU has definitely been a game changer for me – it’s boosted my self-confidence, helped me grow academically, and opened my mind to new perspectives. After I graduate, I hope to work in an international, sustainable environment where I can keep learning.”
Grow with the flow
“I’m really proud to be a student at NHL Stenden, and I love sharing my experience with others whenever I get the chance. I’ve enjoyed everything about my time here so far – including the free coffee machines! Trust me, when you come to study here and get involved in RUN-EU, you’ll see what an amazing feeling it is to be part of our university of applied sciences.”
“To future students, I want to tell you: don’t be afraid of making mistakes – they’ll push you and help you grow. Trust your gut, choose the degree that feels right for you, and believe in yourself. Every student feels insecure sometimes, and that’s totally okay. Take your time, and you’ll see that everything will turn out just fine.”
