“I’m a fourth-year Nursing student and was really looking forward to my internship at a child healthcare centre. Working with young children is my passion – in fact, I’m pregnant with my second child myself. I’m due the week after the graduation ceremony on 3 August. The cancellation of my final internship really threw my planning off track and in order to be able to graduate on time I signed up straight away for the Nurse Force project. As soon as it’s needed, we, the teachers and students from the Nursing programme, will start work at one of the corona centres in Friesland. The idea is that these centres can house patients that have the coronavirus or are recovering from it. There’s also space for hospital patients that need to revalidate after an operation, which means we’re helping create more space in the hospitals and relieving some of our colleagues’ workload. As I’m pregnant, I can’t work at the patients’ bedsides, but will focus on coordinating the project. To be fair, I’d expected my final internship to be quite different but if this all goes ahead then it will be an adventure I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
