“I was worried I'd fall behind ”
Kiera Kruger
International Business student

As a second-year International Business student, Kiera Kruger likes how her programme mixes theory and practice within an international setting. When she heard about the RUN-EU programme, she knew it would add an extra dimension to her studies.

“When I was introduced to the Short Advanced Programmes (SAP) through RUN-EU, I was immediately taken by the statement they made: 'RUN-EU is a space for dialogue and cooperation, where your voice is heard and plays an active role in decision-making"." It made me want to get involved and I joined the RUN-EU student council and attend a SAP. It's given me the opportunity to travel to another country and work with students from other universities that don’t work in the same way as us here at NHL Stenden.”

“The RUN-EU website had clear information about the opportunities it offered and I could see exactly what was expected in the timetable for the SAP I was interested in. This meant I knew exactly what we would be doing and learning so I knew what to expect. As an international business student, I'm obviously interested in the business world and I also enjoy navigating cultural differences in an international setting. An SAP is then a great opportunity to meet students and companies in another country. I opted for the SAP ‘Sustainable and Inclusive Marketing Strategies’ as I wanted to learn more about how to be sustainable in this world. I feel the business world currently lacks the awareness of how to be sustainable in all kinds of aspects, including the environment and society, but also in terms of the organisation. Our task for the SAP was to create a sustainable marketing strategy for an organisation in Ireland.”

Mobility grant

“Through RUN-EU, I got a mobility grant that gave me the financial means to travel to another country, explore a different city and learn, work and interact with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. It's an opportunity I wouldn't otherwise have been able to take as travelling when you come from Zimbabwe, isn't exactly easy or cheap. I think the experience has helped me gain a better understanding of different perspectives and ways of thinking. I was worried that when I actually went to Ireland with the programme for the face-to-face week, I would risk falling behind on my work for my degree, but it was actually relatively easy to sort out. The slides from the lectures I missed were uploaded online and my project group agreed that I would do work if I had free time or once I was back from the SAP.

A step ahead

"I believe the RUN-EU programme and the practical way of learning at NHL Stenden provide a dynamic and supportive learning environment that can help students develop knowledge skills and experiences that prepare them for successful careers in their chosen fields. When I graduate, I'd like to work in marketing in a company that uses sustainable marketing practices. I've always loved creating content and the international business programme and the RUN-EU SAP has already helped me develop my cross-cultural communication skills. And I've now already had practical experience in creating a sustainable marketing strategy for a company, so I'm already one step ahead.”
