“I knew Grand Tour would give me loads of opportunities ”
Robert Savin
International Business student

“I seriously thought ‘ life can’t get better than this’. I was on Bali, studying, enjoying new experiences and meeting people. It made all the hard work of the previous two years so worth it. I’d applied in the first place to International Business because of the international opportunities but especially Grand Tour, and I’d decided right at the start of my studies that I was going to work really hard to get all my credits in so I could go to Bali. I saved money too. The overall day-to-day costs of living were about equal for me between the Netherlands and Bali, but the experiences… I knew if I wanted to get more experiences in, I’d need more money. I also knew Grand Tour would give me loads of opportunities – and it did. For a start, it’s been motivation for me to come back and carry on working hard so that I can later work remotely for a few years and travel around. I met people that did this on Bali, working on their laptops for clients anywhere in the world. You just need a proactive mindset, and I know I have that.”

“Experiencing different things in different places makes you more flexible and so it’s easier to settle into a new way of living or a new work environment. I know my future is in sales and it’s a people-driven business. Being able to adapt to different ways of working and different teams has really helped me. There’s always been someone I can turn to if I needed help, whether it was a colleague or a friend.

I think if we help each other, it makes us stronger.

It gives us more opportunities and these chances keep going back and forth. I’ve helped people on their way to becoming student ambassadors for their degree programme at NHL Stenden, and I got my internship because a friend in the study year above recommended me to the company. All you have to then do is prove you’re good at what you’re doing and more opportunities will follow.”
