“If you want the freedom to be able to also work on your own company, then this is the perfect programme.”
Stefan Brattinga
AD Creative Media Professional student

Stefan Brattinga (20) has been making creative videos for years and in 2020, he set up for himself in the video business. As he wasn’t sure if this was the field he wanted to stay in, he decided to do the relatively short AD programme Creative Media Professional. It means that in just 2 years, he gets a higher professional degree and learns all about conceiving and creating media productions.

“My passion for video started when I was thirteen and making football videos to post on YouTube. After years of practice, I wanted to make videos for others too, so I registered with the Chamber of Commerce. In the meantime, I'd started studying animal management but when it came to doing an assignment in which we to make a video tutorial, I realized that my interests really were more towards creative content. Once I’d passed my propaedeutic year, I stopped my studies. It seemed best to switch to a creative degree. That’s when I found out about the AD programme. Two years would give me the chance to see if it really was my thing and let me further grow my business.”

Projects for large clients

“Very soon into the programme, we started working for an external client, the Groningen news platform Sikkom. In groups, we looked into how they could attract readers and we wrote a marketing communication plan, created social media content, outdoor advertising and even developed a beer for them before presenting our marketing plan. If the client thought the final product was a good match, they could actually put it to use. Having my own business, meant I was used to working on real projects, but I hadn’t yet worked for bigger clients.”

Choose your profession yourself

“We cover the basics of all kinds of creative content, such as audiovisuals, photography and graphic design. You then decide for yourself which profession you want to take on. I focus mainly on video content, but I want to learn about aspects other than those I already did, like the production management that’s involved. I’m thinking about doing my internship abroad, maybe in a social media company, but also maybe in my own company. If you want to become an entrepreneur, then you can use your internship to focus on your business full-time – and with the help of a coach.”

Build a valuable network

The connections I’ve made here are valuable. Many of my fellow students have their own businesses too so I can share experiences and come in contact with people I can make videos for. If you’re looking for a course that enables you to make creative content, build a network in the field and if you want the freedom to be able to work on your own company, then this is the perfect programme.”
