Ieza Ramos

After completing a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, she obtained an MSc in Sustainable Ship and Shipping 4.0. This double degree was awarded by the University of Naples II and the University of A Coruña. She gained professional experience in the offshore industry in Brazil and continued her research career in Finland, where she worked as a researcher for two years. She is currently a Professional Doctorate (PD) candidate at NHL Stenden, working on a project focused on ship damage stability and machine learning applications.

What are your research interests/specialisms?  

My research interests centre on connecting research with practice and current relevant topics in the maritime industry. I have experience in sustainable maritime fuels, data-driven models, hydrodynamic simulations, ship stability and manoeuvrability, as well as ship workability and operational limitations.

What is your role at NHL Stenden, what are your goals and assignments/projects? 

I am a researcher and PD candidate at NHL Stenden. My project focuses on the development of a prototype decision support system (DSS) that uses onboard sensor data and crew reports to identify hull breaches and recommend appropriate countermeasures. The project is interdisciplinary and involves collaboration within a network that brings together expertise in naval architecture, engineering, human factors and data science. Through close collaboration with partners, the PD trajectory aims to deliver solutions that are not only innovative, but also practical and aligned with real-world maritime operations.

What do you like to do in your free time? 

Whenever I have free time I like to explore new places and find hidden gems around.
