Structure of the minor
A series of lectures, guest lectures, and various media and literature resources will help students gain a better understanding of the unique challenges faced by the community for which students are designing a project or solution.
Over the course of 10 weeks, students will engage in the design and research cycle, aimed at enhancing their comprehension of the local context, which can either pose challenges or provide advantages in the realm of social development. They will be required to articulate the rationale behind how their research or solutions aim to address the specific challenges within the array of issues.
In addition to these design-focused exercises, students will also create a portfolio in development communication. This portfolio will encompass various mediums, including traditional media, social media, and other communication platforms, aligned with their individual learning goals and areas of expertise.
Furthermore, to provide students with authentic real-world experiences, they will embark on a 10–15-day (over the course of 5 weeks) volunteering experience with our partnered development organization. This practical engagement will enable them to gain a profound understanding of the field and apply their skills to contribute to the work of their selected organization.
