
They are still a bit uncomfortable walking around on the grounds of NHL Stenden. David Pham (20) and Khanh Ngyen (18) are barely 24 hours in the Netherlands and find out: "It's chilly here." The thermometer shows 23 degrees Celsius, which is significantly less than they are used to at home in Vietnam.
Pham and Ngyen belong to the large group of Vietnamese students who have enrolled in a study in Leeuwarden. The institute does not yet know why the interest from the South-East Asian country is growing this much. The two boys, who both want to study hotel management, have a simple explanation: Google.
“I want to start a restaurant in my own city, Can Tho City," says Pham in reasonable English. “That's why I was looking for good education abroad. Through Google I ended up at NHL Stenden. And now I'm here." Ngyen, from Tra Vinh, also ended up on NHL Stenden's website. "I want to be a hotel manager", he says and laughs. They are pleasantly surprised that they meet dozens of fellow countrymen in Leeuwarden.
