The symposium 'Strong Together, interprofessional collaboration and learning together' for and by nurses and caretakers in the Northern Region took place on Wednesday, 5 October 2022. In speed dates and workshops, students, researchers and professionals discussed the important role they have in the necessary change towards interprofessional collaboration. It is an initiative by ZuidOostZorg and NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences.

Leeuwarden is local hub for International congress

The symposium ties in with the international congress 'Future proof Nursing'. Online, students could follow the lecture by Claudia Maier, postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Healthcare Management at the University of Berlin, on the interprofessional skill-mix. Students and nurses then interacted through speed dates and workshops on the important role they have in the necessary change towards interprofessional collaboration.

The meeting led to new insights that can contribute to future-proof care within a vital region where education, research and practice reinforce each other. Nynke Boonstra, professor in Care & Innovation in Psychiatry, discussed the outcomes of the mini-symposium for the nursing profession in a reflective lecture that further highlighted the outcomes in relation to current developments in the profession

Interprofessional cooperation

The central theme was interprofessional cooperation. Hans Drenth, lecturer in Short-term Care and Interprofessional Collaboration for Vulnerable Elderly People and Margreet van der Cingel, lecturer in Nursing Leadership and Research for Good Care indicated: "In the day-to-day practice of healthcare providers, collaborating with other professionals seems obvious. Yet interprofessional cooperation and learning from each other is not always easy. In doing so, we want to look at success factors: what can you do to make collaboration work well for everyone? Nurses and healthcare professionals have a crucial role in interprofessional cooperation. After all, they see the client the most. How does their professional identity influence collaboration with others? And what is the difference between interprofessional and multidisciplinary collaboration? These questions were the focus of this symposium where students and professionals met.

European Nursing Congress

From 4 to 7 October 2022, the European Nursing Congress (ENC) 2022 will take place: a large online event focusing on the future of nursing. NHL Stenden and ZuidOostZorg are both 'premium partners' of this large-scale online event with the central theme 'Future proof nursing: nurses as key drivers of change'. In other words: how do we work towards future-proof care and what role does the nurse play in this as a key figure? The mini-symposium contributes to this by connecting education, research and practice to look differently at difficult issues of interprofessional collaboration.
