Restaurant Wannee receives Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award
In hospitality, guests have the final say. Every review says something about the food, the service and the overall experience. So, when a restaurant receives positive reviews throughout the year, it shows that something is working.
Restaurant Wannee, located on the NHL Stenden campus in Leeuwarden, has received a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award. This places the restaurant among the top 10% of restaurants worldwide on Tripadvisor. The award is based entirely on reviews and ratings from guests.
Learning hospitality by doing
What makes this recognition particularly special is the people behind the experience. Wannee is a professional restaurant and a real-world learning environment for students from Hotel Management School Leeuwarden.
Under the supervision of experienced lecturers and hospitality professionals, students are involved in the daily operation of the restaurant and hotel. They welcome guests, prepare and serve food and work together as a team. This gives them first-hand experience of what it takes to create a great hospitality experience.
Students do not simply practise hospitality in the classroom. They put it into practice with real guests, real responsibilities and real feedback.
From learning to guest experience
Wannee’s cuisine is honest, local and vegetable-forward. It is inspired by Cornelia Johanna Wannée, author of one of the first Dutch cookbooks. Combined with warm and attentive service, it creates an experience that guests clearly appreciate. This is reflected in the reviews behind the Travellers’ Choice Award.
For our students, the award shows what learning in a real hospitality environment can lead to. At Wannee, they are given real responsibilities and learn to meet the expectations of real guests. The fact that their work contributes to a restaurant among the top 10% worldwide shows the value of learning by doing and what our students can achieve before they graduate.
