Who teaches us how to use AI? Education and technological knowledge are essential for the future

RUN-EU

AI is changing our society. How can we ensure that education, students and our region are ready for this change? Through European collaboration, including STEAM projects and new applications of AI in education, RUN-EU is developing the knowledge and skills we need for the future.

Regional University Network – European University (RUN-EU) brings European educational institutions together to share knowledge, conduct joint research and find solutions to societal challenges. But why does this matter?

Many of the challenges we face go beyond national borders. Think of the rapid development of technology, the transition to a sustainable economy and the question of how everyone can participate in a digital society. By working together, we can learn from one another and make better use of our knowledge. This strengthens not only education, but also innovation and the economy in our own region.

How technology can make a difference

This collaboration also takes shape through projects in primary and secondary schools. STEAM projects introduce pupils to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics in practical and creative ways. They learn to carry out their own research, develop solutions and work together. This helps them understand how technology can be used to address everyday questions and challenges.

We are also exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) can be used in education. AI offers new opportunities, for example by helping to process information and support learning. At the same time, it raises important questions. How can we use AI responsibly? How can we teach pupils to think critically when working with AI? And how can we ensure that everyone has equal opportunities?

Fair and accessible education

The international programme 'AI and Equity' addresses these questions. It focuses on the role of AI in making education fair and accessible. This is not just about what technology can do, but also about its impact on pupils, teachers and society. Technological knowledge is essential to understanding the opportunities AI offers, recognising its risks and making informed decisions.

That is why we work together with European partners within RUN-EU. Our aim is not only to develop new knowledge, but also to put it into practice in education and our region. By connecting education, research and professional practice, we help pupils and students prepare for a rapidly changing world. Together, we are building a region where people have the knowledge and skills to participate, innovate and contribute to a strong and future-proof economy.
