Student Housing Emmen
There are lots of different types of accommodation available in Emmen, which means you should easily be able to find the right kind of place for you. Prices vary depending on room type and location. We urge you to start looking for accomodation at least 2-3 months before your studies start. Make sure you check the rental price includes electricity, gas and wifi!
Housing assurance for first year students
For first year EU and non-EU students we have a housing agreement in place that assures you of a room provided you meet certain conditions. We don't own or manage student accommodation ourselves, but work with local housing providers to ensure eligible students secure accommodation.
The guarantee is subject to availability and you need to have completed the whole enrollment process for your study programme before the housing deadline. For students starting in September, this deadline is 1 July, and for the February intake, the deadline is 1 December.
Online platform: iRentalize.nl
iRentalize.nl is an online platform to help you find housing. You can sign up for free and then browse listings, respond to offers, and contact landlords directly. And there are no extra fees.
We recommend you check out this platform first when searching for accommodation.
Studios Het Centrum
Opening summer 2025: 27 brand new studios at Het Centrum, Bukakkers 18 in the city center of Emmen. The studios are available both furnished and unfurnished, with an average rent of €825 per month, all-inclusive. It’s a great location just a short bike ride from NHL Stenden and close to shops, cafés, and restaurants. There’s space to park your bike, and limited car parking is also available.

Student rooms at Spott – Stationstraat 73
Spott.nu offers 11 fully furnished student rooms at Stationstraat 73, right next to the train and bus station, one of the most central locations in Emmen. From here, it’s just a few minutes to NHL Stenden, the shops, and all the cafés, restaurants, and terraces that make student life more enjoyable.

Stay updated on available rooms: email studentinfo.emmen@nhlstenden.com with your name, student number and student contact details. If a landlord informs us about an available room, we’ll pass the information along to you. You can then contact the landlord directly.
Post a request on our noticeboard: email your request, including your contact details and housing preferences, to studentinfo.emmen@nhlstenden.com. We’ll make sure your notice is displayed at the university.
Other ways to find a room
Join the ‘Studenten Garage Sale Emmen’ group on Facebook to find not only student rooms but also second-hand textbooks, furniture, and other useful items. You can also post your own request to let others know you’re looking for a room.
These online platforms are not official NHL Stenden partners.
Marktplaats.nl is a popular online marketplace where you can find rental listings, second-hand furniture, electronics, and more. You can search for available rooms for free and even post your own free ad stating that you're looking for accommodation.
There are also paid platforms, such as Kamernet.nl that give you access to a wider range of rental listings. Bear in mind that experiences with these sites can vary, so always do your research before committing to a service.
