Studying at NHL Stenden in Meppel means joining the International Teacher Education community. It's a community of students and staff from all over the world and it adds a very diverse international flavour to this small northern city in the Netherlands.
The compact size of the city means practically everything is on your doorstep, from shopping centre to sports centre, cinema to nature reserve. Sounds good, right? The other good news is that finding accommodation is also pretty easy. We still recommend you start looking for accommodation as soon as possible – just so you can make the best choice for you!
It's also good to know that NHL Stenden students enjoy both lower costs and more spacious accommodation than the Dutch average. The national student housing knowledge centre, Kences, carried out a survey in 2024 that showed that students in the north of the Netherlands get more for their money. The survey also indicated that the accommodation offered more closely matches what students demand, whether it concerns shared accommodation, studios or apartments.

NHL Stenden has a number of preferred partners offering housing in Meppel. With such a wide choice, there’s bound to be something that suits your needs and tastes.
College Campus Meppel is one of NHL Stenden’s preferred accommodation partners and has two buildings next to each other. It offers a total of 154 furnished rooms, 80 in the main building, Building 540, and 74 in cosy Building 542, and is just a 5-minute cycle (or 20-minute walk) away from the NHL Stenden campus. That said, there are also 4 classrooms on the ground floor of Building 540 – how perfect does that sound? Roll out of bed and into class!

Gesamenluk offers housing in a ten-storey former nurses’ dormitory, located right next to the Reestdal nature reserve. The building provides 70 unfurnished student rooms in various sizes, spread across 10 floors.
The building is currently being redeveloped to serve its new purpose. Over time, every floor and space will be redeveloped. Students who choose to rent a space before the redevelopment is complete agree to relocate to a newly refurbished area once it becomes available.
