You pay statutory tuition fees if:
- you are a citizen of the EU/EER, Switzerland or Suriname
- you have a particular residence permit *see below
and - you have not already earned a similar diploma at another public-funded educational institute in the Netherlands.

* You pay statutory fees if you meet on of the following conditions:
- You are resident in an EU/EER country (permit type 'EU/EER')
- You are family of someone with an EU/EER residence permit (type 'familielid EU/EER').
- You are a British Citizen residing in an EU member state since before Brexit with a residence permit based on Article 50 of the EU Treaty
- You are a British national with a residence permit 28, 29, 40 or 30 (the latter temporarily until October 1, 2021)
- You have a permit allowing you to reside permanently in the Netherlands on ordinary grounds or a permanent or temporary residence permit for persons granted asylum (these are permits type II, III, IV of V)
- You have a permit allowing you to work in the Netherlands as a highly educated migrant or work as a researcher (indicated as a European Blue Card, type I permit)
- You have a permit allowing you to work as a researcher in the Netherlands (a type I permit stating 'Onderzoek in de zin van richtlijn (EU) 2016/801’)
- You have a temporary regular residence permit (a type I permit) which entitles you to student finance
