Joyce Verhees

After secondary school, I studied European Secretarial Studies at the Schoevers Institute. After spending some time working in business, I ended up in education at what was then the NHL. I started as an executive secretary at the Institute of Economics and Management, later going on to undertake project work. I then moved to the Institute of Technology and have been working for the Maritime Research Group (formerly the Maritime Technology Knowledge Centre), which is part of MIWB, for quite some time now. I live with my husband and our two children (a son and a daughter) in the heart of Leeuwarden.

What are your research interests/specialisms?

While I am not a researcher who conducts research, I play a role in project support and organisation. I enjoy creating an overview of project activities and monitoring actions in my position.

What is your role at NHL Stenden and what are your goals and tasks?

As a project support officer, I am a central source of information and play a key role in all kinds of project activities. I enjoy supporting members of the research group, ensuring things are well organised and facilitating and documenting processes. In addition, as office manager, I support the MIWB director.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to spend time with family and friends in my spare time. I have a variety of hobbies, such as dancing, singing, walking, baking, and enjoying good food. I grew up doing water sports and sailing a lot with my parents and brother, and I later did the same with my own family. Although I no longer own a boat, I am always happy around water, harbours and boats. In that respect, I definitely have a connection to the maritime world.
