Sonja Kuipers has been a lecturer on the Nursing programme since 2013. Within the Healthcare & Innovation in Psychiatry professorship, Sonja is a lecturer-researcher, her work focusing on improving the lifestyle of people who suffer from a psychiatric disorder.

As a nurse, Sonja Kuipers worked for Thuiszorg Groningen, where she focused on technological medical treatments. She completed a Master's degree in Social Work in 2013, after which she studied for her Master’s degree in Health and Social Care at Birmingham City University.

Sonja is currently working with several students on a research project on the oral health of people with a psychotic disorder and people with a slight intellectual disability in combination with a psychiatric disorder.

Ensuring quality

Sonja wants to contribute to improving the quality of healthcare and the quality of life of psychologically vulnerable people via research into interventions and developing knowledge to be used in the field. She also contributes towards developing more evidence for professionals within the healthcare and welfare sector.
