New forms of learning and teaching content place significant demands on the expertise of teachers in secondary education, particularly in terms of teaching methodology skills. This core competence, as it were, ensures that the cogs turn at full speed in students’ heads and that they learn from what they are doing and experiencing. A teacher who is pedagogically competent is able to encourage pupils to get the best out of themselves.
The professorship supports teachers and schools in the further development and strengthening of the teaching skills through:
joint research into learning and supervision processes for pupils in new learning environments: clarifying, designing and investigating research questions together; submitting joint grant applications if possible
advising the school management on how to design and support this research process in the faculty
supervising student research at training colleges and building on that research
linking student research at training colleges (smart connection) to the pedagogical development demand of department, so that prospective and experienced teachers can learn from each other
research into the professionalisation of (prospective) teachers in the area of teaching methodology and carrying out applied research; Lesson Study in particular
annual contributions to national and international conferences
