In 2020, I followed the new minor at VIA in Aarhus Denmark. Although I initially planned on doing The Fashion Experience course, I ended up choosing “The New Screen Experience – Film and Transmedia Storytelling” and I am honestly more than happy with the choice I made!

During the course we learned theory and technology involving Virtual- & Augmented Reality and how to implement new technologies into an experience. The semester is divided into three modules, and similar to the NHL Stenden ways, include weekly topics that are taught by guest lecturers who are experts in their field. We had a very international and diverse group with exchange students from all over the world, such as Canada, China, Australia etc. During my time up there, I have learned so much more about the media industry, trends and technology and where the film industry is heading than I could’ve ever imagined. I can truly say that I walked out of there with numerous valuable knowledge and skills.

As far as student life goes, Aarhus is a great city! Everyone is genuinely kind and friendly and will welcome you with open arms. In times where people are able to actually pursue a social life, there are numerous events, meet-ups and bars hosted by different faculties and associations in the city. Overall, I have to say that although this exchange wasn’t going as I anticipated, I was able to make the best of the situation, find ways to enjoy my time and create bonds with people for a lifetime.

So, if you are interested in innovative media, out of the box storytelling and an awesome time in Scandinavia? I can definitely recommend you to check out this minor!
