“I wasn’t happy with the course I’d chosen and started looking around for something different about a year into my studies A friend was studying at NHL Stenden in Leeuwarden and I came to see her a few times and I liked what I saw. Leeuwarden seemed to have a classic Dutch vibe with all the canals and everything but was also really cute and cosy. And the campus buildings seemed so big, light and airy. I liked all the greenery and we had some great food. It all felt very inviting.
I looked into the different degrees on offer but knew that I actually wanted to go into events management, so the choice was actually quite simple: leisure and events management. My friend had shown me around so I’d seen places like the Future Lab and the study landscapes, and I’d even sneaked into one of her lectures. It gave me a sneak preview of what my student life would be like.”
Life as a student
“This year I’m organizing the StudyDive for new and potential students and we’re really going to focus on the life of a student. It’ll be kind of like all the information and impressions I got visiting my friend before I started studying here, but packed into a single, game-show-like session. We want to really dive into what you do as a student outside class, like in the weekend or in the evening. So we’re going to be talking about where you can go out, what you can get up to, and things like student associations and part-time jobs. Of course there’ll be more serious information to share too which means the StudyDive could also be useful to students who are already studying here but haven’t yet explored, for instance, options for part-time jobs.
The StudyDive is a great way of finding out about the fun side of studying. It’s a really good combination with the Open Days and the Pre-Arrival Webinar so that you get a good balance of practical information about your study and insider information into the campus buildings and student cities. Add a Walk&Talk tour to all that and I think you’ll end up convinced studying here is the right choice.”
