“Arriving in the beginning of January, I was welcomed by 7 hours of daylight and minus 12 degrees Celsius. I had to adapt to that rhythm, but this was quicker than expected. The evening I arrived, I met my Norwegian roommates Lara and Alvilde for the first time in real life and they even prepared a Norwegian dinner for me. Before my classes started in mid-January, they'd already shown me around the city and given me tips on where to get the cheapest groceries, and so on.”
Eric's exchange in Norway
Creative Business student Eric Kleinen (22) decided to experience the Nordics for his exchange semester. More than just a study experience, it's given him a chance to explore beautiful natural areas and, added bonus, catch up on his skiing.
Exchange
Exploring the countryside
“What I like most about living here are the opportunities to do winter sports and enjoy the countryside. I’m super passionate about skiing but hadn't skied for two years because of the corona pandemic. Here, I can reach my playground, the local skiing area, by metro (included in the normal public transport ticket) but I also went away on weekend trips to the skiing areas in Hemsedal and Trysil with the friends I got to know here. Driving our rental cars on these scenic roads and passing lakes and forests in the middle of nowhere will really stay in my memory. And now, with spring and summer coming, we'll spend weekends visiting the islands in the fjord of Oslo and enjoying the good weather there.
I am super grateful for what I've experienced and am experiencing here. Realising that I'm already half-way through my exchange is kind of scary. I’m already looking forward to the summer and some more trips to the Lofoten islands are already in the planning!”
