“I grew up in a family that loves travelling and making the most of every opportunity to explore new places. I was determined to study abroad and the more I found out about the organisation and structure of NHL Stenden, the more I liked it. There was an abundance of information and this made it much easier to understand what each of the study programmes involved. My choice fell on Tourism Management. It seemed like a good opportunity to give depth to my hobby.”
The Open Day – by students
“Part of my research was watching the Online Open Day. I hadn’t been to any open days before NHL Stenden’s so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I remember being a bit overwhelmed by how so many different nationalities could come together and communicate so effortlessly. Still, I got loads out of the day. I got lots of insights into the programme, how it’s put together and how we learn, and about the city. The fact that it was all presented by students seemed weird in a way. It’s not something I was used to. Now I’m studying here, I see that there are actually a lot of things run by students. It now makes sense and it’s exciting that there are so many opportunities for us.”
Thought-provoking
“Within a month of starting my studies, I already felt at home and incredibly welcomed. There seems to be an atmosphere that embraces students from all walks of life, so it quickly feels like you’re part of a family. In one of my first group projects, we brainstormed ideas for a presentation and it was amazing to see so many different cultures and perspectives come together. It led to one of the most dynamic and thought-provoking discussions I’ve ever had.”
“When it came to the actual presentation, we had a technical issue with a video we’d spent a lot of time preparing. We managed to improvise and everything turned out fine in the end, but it reminded me of something a student said during the Open Day: we will face challenges, but the key is to overcome them.”
