“Creative Business combined everything I wanted: management, working with media, gaining real-world experience and an international environment.”

Creative Business student

With a passion for dance and storytelling, Guoda long dreamt of working as a music video producer. She figured a Creative Business degree was the right combination of creativity and management. She just had to decide where the right place was to study. The Media Lab, the studios and the welcoming atmosphere she felt convinced her that NHL Stenden was right.

The perfect choice

“I was struggling to find my path in the creative industries and the Creative Business programme at NHL Stenden felt like a combination of everything I wanted to try: management, working with media, gaining real-world experience and studying in an international environment. Looking back, it really was the perfect choice. I've had so many opportunities and got the right tools and facilities to try out everything I wanted to, including creating my own audiovisual production from scratch and watching it together with all my course mates. I felt so proud in that moment and yet it's just the beginning.”

Double-edged sword

“I love how in this degree, creativity isn't only encouraged, it's a must! We get to develop the craziest ideas, do our own projects with all the equipment the university provides, and so much more. We work in groups, which is a double-edge sword: you're never alone and you learn crucial teamwork skills, but the quality of your experience depends heavily on the group.”

“That said, one of our most memorable field trips was one we organised ourselves as part of an assignment. We visited Lithuania's national broadcaster, LRT, where we interviewed Lithuanian producer, Audrius Giržadas, the director of Lithuania’s Eurovision delegation team. It was great to do but also a great networking opportunity.”

Real pitches, future path

“The fact that we work with real clients on projects is a real plus. It means we not only learn a lot about the industry itself, but the groups we work in function almost like real companies, so you really get to try your skills out in practical scenarios. I've worked for some really exciting companies, like ITV and the Northern Film Festival and had the possibility to pitch my ideas to them and possibly have them chosen and developed in the future. Like recently, based on audience research, my team and I developed a documentary drama series concept about artificial intelligence and its harmful effects on humanity. We're really excited about it."

Career insights

“As part of our programme, we went to a Career Day in at the Media Park in Hilversum, where many of the Dutch broadcasters and media companies are based. We got to listen to some insightful presentations from media industry professionals such as ITV, Videoland and Team5pm. The day gave me loads of valuable insights into the media landscape in the Netherlands and I saw the kind of career opportunities open to us as Creative Business graduates.”
“It's the video production side of media that I now know I want to have as my future. After working on numerous student projects and directing my own short film, I know that this is the path I truly enjoy.”
