“When I graduated from high school in Germany, I felt like I was at a crossroads, unsure of which direction to take. After months of searching, I finally found a programme I liked and was soon packed up to move to Hamburg. But it turned out it wasn’t for me. I decided to quit and start afresh with a new study. The infinite opportunities left me uncertain of what to choose. Then my mum mentioned that our neighbour’s daughter was studying at NHL Stenden, which made me realise there were options outside Germany that I could explore. Eventually, I decided to enrol in Leisure & Events Management – I was drawn in by the creative and diverse programme, which convinced me to give it a try!”
“Looking back, I can confidently say that choosing NHL Stenden was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I didn’t have specific expectations going in, but the programme covers everything you need as a Leisure & Events Manager. What really stands out is the passion our coaches have for the programme – they all work super hard to make everyone feel engaged and welcome.”
Leaping into Grand Tour
“During my studies, I decided to go on Grand Tour – and it was truly an incredible experience. What's really appealing about Grand Tour is that you can just sign up for it and don’t have to worry about finding a school or accommodation. So, that's why I chose South Africa and Bali because I’d never been to Africa or Asia.”
“In South Africa, I took the ‘Change and Innovation’ minor. The minor itself was great, but I learned even more from my coach and the local students and teachers. Working with a local business also showed me how different perspectives can lead to unique outcomes. It taught me that our Western European way isn’t the only ‘right’ way. As we all have different approaches, we can learn so much from each other, and experiencing this first-hand helped me become more open-minded. In Bali, I did the ‘Inspirational Coach and Leader’ minor and had a similar experience. It showed me that understanding other cultures is key to understanding yourself.”
Memories that matter
“Having the chance to go on Grand Tour in my third year was amazing and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity. It made me realise it’s not just about the degree – it’s also about the experiences, the people, and the memories you make along the way. Stepping out of your comfort zone can be scary, but I found that it's 100% worth it – I can’t wait for what the future holds!”
