Audio and Music Production Studio
Would you like to learn how to produce a jaw-dropping Soundtrack?
Are you interested in what makes a film score work? Would you like to know how to overcome your composer’s block? Do you want to learn about different DAWs? (Digital Audio Workstations) and are you prepared to learn all this in an all-English environment?
Then this minor is what you are looking for.
You will be working on a perfect integration of music and sound with talented fellow students.

• How to kick-start your creativity
• How to collaborate with a group of sound designers and musicians and work with other studios
• How can sound and music be merged into a product that is more than the sum of its constituent parts?
More specifically, you may work on:
Recording, Mixing, Editing, Mastering, Composing, Songwriting, Music Production, Studio Recording, Foley, TV/film post-production, Film Scoring.
Imagine the fun you will have learning the tricks of a trade that already engages the most creative talents and pouring all your artistic skills into a dazzling production that will boost your portfolio no end.
Minor content
Develop your own study plan and get acquainted with audio mixing, mastering, recording, analog gear, and recording sessions. You will learn to improve your music production skills by having access to a proper sounding room, a recording booth, high-quality microphones, preamps, analog gear, and an interface.
- Software setup
The main idea is that everybody can use their own DAW of preference, but since we want to include some instruction in specific software, we can teach the following:
Pro Tools, Ableton, Cubase, Audition, several audio plug-ins, and Virtual instruments such as Samplers, Modeling, Synths, etc. - Workshops and training
The studio will have non-commissioned projects to promote self-learning and creativity and commissioned projects to encourage communication skills and experience as a real-life stakeholder. Examples on commissioned (client) projects include:
-Make music for children for a Korean company
-Produce a song for the target group of teenagers that tries to get attention to particular topics
-Create a soundscape for a specific art installation
-Work on a student record label
Structure of the minor
Within the studio, you work with two different types of projects, each with its own purpose.
Project – Non-commissioned work
During this project, you work on non-commissioned work.
This gives you plenty of freedom to determine your own direction.
That means:
• You do not work for a client
• You focus on your own development, interests, and learning goals
• You experiment, deepen your knowledge, and explore your field
• This work forms the foundation for your growth as a maker/designerProject – Commissioned work
During this project, you work on commissioned work.
That means:
• You work for a real client
• You collaborate in an interdisciplinary team
• The client project is leading
• You demonstrate how you apply your field of expertise and/or design knowledge in a professional context
Within the various projects, you work on 5 competencies: Creating, Researching, Organising, Communicating and Learning.Workshops and Clubs
During the semester, you can take part in Workshops and Clubs based on your own interests and learning goals. They can support your projects or development, but do not always have to be directly connected to them. The most important thing is that you can explain what you have learned and how this contributes to your growth as a maker or designer.
Study features
The assessment consists of two assessments (a midterm and a final assessment). Throughout the minor, you collect evidence in a portfolio. During the assessments, you present and justify your design choices and learning process in a conversation with assessors. If you successfully complete the minor, you will receive 30 ECTS.
This minor is only accessible to students through the Kies-op-Maat program or through the Exchange program.
The student who wishes to join should be someone with musical knowledge who, apart from being able to work with various music software applications, is also at home on the design side of things. No doubt you will wish to know more.
