This module offers students the opportunity to dive into hands-on learning that integrates project management, event design, and creative marketing into one dynamic experience. Working in small, multidisciplinary teams, you will plan and execute a live event that contributes meaningfully to the local community, creating both social impact and professional development opportunities. The emphasis is on real-world challenges: how to innovate under constraints, engage diverse audiences, and deliver an event that is both memorable and culturally relevant. Collaboration will be central, as you and your peers tackle the complexities of event planning from conception to delivery, learning to navigate teamwork, leadership, and communication in high-energy contexts. Alongside classroom workshops, you will immerse yourself in the local culture through a series of curated field trips designed to provide direct inspiration for your event concepts and creative direction. These experiences will broaden your understanding of how culture, tradition, and innovation intersect in contemporary event practices.
By the end of the module, you will not only have contributed to a successful live event but will also have developed a standout portfolio that demonstrates your skills, creativity, and achievements to future employers or academic programs. This portfolio, enriched by your practical experience, will provide tangible evidence of your ability to transform ideas into impactful action. Successful completion of this module will award you 15 EC (European Credits), reflecting both the intensity of the workload and the academic and professional value of the competencies you acquire.
Structure of the minor
The overall learning outcome of the minor is: "The student can apply design, organizational, and execution skills to create a sustainable event that contributes to the local community. The student will conduct an in-depth analysis of the event's impact and reflect on their own role as a professional event organizer, considering both individual and group perspectives."
Based around the areas of project management, creativity and design, marketing, programming, finance and risk management, you demonstrate that you are able to identify and analyze relevant theory and apply this to real world event cases. The minor is a mix of interactive atelier sessions, expert sessions, guest lectures, and self-study.
After a teambuilding bootcamp during the first period, you will embark on various mandatory educational field trips during your minor. These immersive local excursions will allow you to explore Bali, event practices and community initiatives, providing valuable insights and inspiration for your work as an event organizer. You will then apply these learnings while designing and organizing a real event for a client, to be executed in the final week of the minor.
