Welcome to the international minor program of Health and Harmony, an innovative educational initiative aimed at fostering cross-cultural learning and collaborative problem-solving between Bali and the Netherlands. This program is rooted in the shared belief that addressing today’s most pressing challenges—often referred to as wicked problems—requires a global effort, one that is enriched by the diverse perspectives, knowledge systems, and values of different cultures.

Issues such as climate change, public health and mental wellbeing, resource management, economic inequality and social inclusion, sustainable tourism and community well-being are examples of these multifaceted challenges. Solutions to such problems require not only innovation but also a harmonious balance between human well-being and environmental sustainability. This balance lies at the heart of both Balinese and Dutch traditions, making these two regions uniquely suited to collaborate on these issues.

The Health and Harmony minor invites students, teachers-researchers, and community leaders from Bali and the Netherlands to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and co-create solutions that draw from both traditional wisdom and modern science. Through experiential learning, fieldtrips, voluntary work, research and dialogue, participants will engage deeply with key themes, connected to Health & Harmony.
International collaboration between Dutch and Balinese people thrives on mutual respect, despite differences in communication styles—where Dutch communication is often characterized by directness and efficiency, Balinese communication tends to be more indirect and rooted in maintaining harmony and respect within relationships.

As you embark on this journey, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in immersive experiences
  • Work on real-world projects that address wicked problems affecting our societies.
  • Engage with mentors, peers, and experts from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
