In Intro to Coding for Crypto and Forex Trading, you’ll learn – with no prior programming experience required – how to use Python and off-the-shelf tools to process and analyse market data, and set up automated trades. From day one, you’ll work on a self-chosen project, gradually discovering how automated scripts can execute trading decisions and how to apply this responsibly. You’ll develop practical coding skills in a fast-moving market where technology and finance challenge each other every single day.

Content of the minor
In this fully online minor, you’ll learn the basics of Python programming and how to apply it to automate crypto and forex trading. The first weeks focus on interactive online lessons, using off-the-shelf tools to collect, process, and use market data for executing trades. You will then increasingly focus on your own self-chosen project, developing and testing functionalities step by step. You’ll receive individual online guidance from a team with many years of experience in successfully running online minors. Topics include data processing, API integration, basic principles of automated trading strategies, and responsible participation in financial markets.
Structure of the minor
The minor is delivered entirely online, lasts one period, and carries 15 ECTS. It can be taken in any teaching period. You can choose to complete this minor in one term. You can also choose to take less or more time to complete it. This minor can therefore be easily combined with your other educational and personal activities.
Students are expected to work actively and independently. During the first weeks, you will participate in interactive online classes covering the basics of Python programming, data analysis, and the use of off-the-shelf tools. After this initial phase, the focus shifts to your self-chosen project. You will work independently on developing your automated trading solution, supported by intensive, one-on-one online guidance from the teaching team. With many years of experience running online minors, the team provides personal and expert support at every stage of your project.
Study features
The assessment for this minor is based on an individual evaluation in which you present and defend your self-chosen project. During the assessment, you will demonstrate how you applied the programming and analysis techniques learned to create a functioning automated trading solution. In addition to the technical implementation, the evaluation also considers your reasoning, your decision-making throughout the development process, and your reflection on responsible practices within the context of crypto and forex trading.
This minor is open to all students in higher vocational education (HBO) and university (WO), regardless of study background. You will start from the absolute basics and receive step-by-step guidance from an experienced teaching team with extensive expertise in running online minors. No prior programming experience is required; knowledge and skills will be built from scratch. An interest in economics and financial markets is a strong advantage, as the examples and assignments are rooted in the context of crypto and forex trading. The minor is fully online, allowing you to participate from anywhere.
