SDG 12 is about sustainable production and consumption, through more efficient use of raw materials, reduces pressure on the environment and reduces dependence on those resources. Find out what we at NHL Stenden are doing in relation to this issue.
We are committed to responsible consumption and production. Within our university of applied sciences, we promote the reuse of coffee cups and water bottles. In addition, our restaurants and canteens use the Dutch Cuisine sustainability concept, which aims to teach students how to create better food and take a responsible approach to food waste. For example, within our Service Economy research priority area, we are working on creating a responsible future for consumption and production.
Teaching & Research
Within our research, we are working hard on finding solutions to wastage of resources and energy. For example, the Circular Plastics professorship analyses and optimises waste separation processes by connecting the entire northern resource, production, consumption and waste supply chain. This research is also linked to our education, in which students who follow the Circular Plastics minor get to work on recycling and upcycling plastics. Within our Service Economy research priority area, the Sustainability in Hospitality and Tourism professorship conducts research into making the hospitality and tourism industry more sustainable, with a view to securing a sustainable future.
