The goal is all about reducing the inequalities between countries. However, social cohesion is likewise indispensable to the proper functioning of society in our own country. Everyone should have equal opportunities in order to become part of the social infrastructure. Find out what we at NHL Stenden are doing about that below.
Inclusive education
Students have an internal platform (IDARE) for inclusiveness and intercultural understanding and in addition we provide various minors on inclusive education. Our Inclusive Community Lab works with students on tackling inequality and poverty. This takes place in a real life setting, in the districts and neighbourhoods themselves where it all happens rather than in the lecture halls of the institution.
Research
The Multilingualism & Literacy professorship is committed to equal opportunities and inclusive education, in which all pupils/students are given the opportunity to learn and develop into social, linguistically skilled and critical citizens – regardless of their linguistic and cultural background. Through her research, professor Joana Duarte shows that the use of native languages is essential to the development of pupils.
‘A teacher who attempts to immerse themselves in the other language will give the child a sense of security. This will allow children to learn better and be less concerned about mispronouncing or understanding things.’ - Joana Duarte, professor of Multilingualism & Literacy
