SDG 9 focuses on mobility and infrastructure and innovation and sustainability advances in the area. At NHL Stenden, we have already taken several steps in this direction and which we use to encourage students and members of staff to pick the most sustainable form of transport, particularly in the business operations domain.
Teaching & Research
Within our teaching and research, we work on developing sustainable solutions to economic challenges and environmental problems. The Vital Economy research group, for example, is working on process optimisation and on how making processes more sustainable can contribute to a strong commercial position within the Vital Regions. In addition, Smart Sustainable Industries devotes attention to sustainable energy consumption, the bio-economy and technological innovations.
Sustainable solutions
Students are given the opportunity to follow various minors that touch on sustainable solutions and on reducing energy consumption. Within our research and partnerships, major steps are being taken in making processes more sustainable. For example, within the Sustainable Plastics professorship the focus is on how we can replace fossil fuels by sustainable energy.
‘In my research group, we look at the reuse of 3D printed materials that are difficult to recycle and to date still end up being discarded. This brings us one step close to a circular plastic economy’ - Vincent Voet, professor of Sustainable Plastics.
