Minor content
In this minor, you will learn how languages are learned and taught. What can you do as in class to help your students improve their English? What is the role of e.g. skills and grammar? Should you even teach grammar or can we skip that and just communicate together? How can you cater to students with different learning needs and language backgrounds? How do you set up a good language lesson? All this questions, and more, are answered in the courses that you take within this minor. At the end, you will have the knowledge and skills to create and teach your own English lessons.
Structure of the minor
During the minor, students attend courses with ITESS students from years 1 and 2. You will take six courses of five credits each: three in the first half of the semester and three in the second half.
Students will take several courses related to linguistic knowledge such as grammar and phonetics. Additionally they will take several courses devoted to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). All courses have a knowledge component and a didactic component: how would you teach this content to your students?
