Her passion for skateboarding turned into inspiration
For Maryah, skateboarding is far more than a pastime. After stepping onto a skateboard for the first time in 2020, she became the first woman from Dubai to compete in the World Championships in Aljada just two years later. What began as a personal challenge soon became a way to inspire others. Through her partnership with the skate brand Habibi, Maryah provides skateboarding lessons to children, helping them discover the same sense of freedom she finds in the sport.
Maryah applies this passion and drive to the hospitality industry as well, where she aims to create meaningful impact by fostering creativity and human connection.
A role model for change
The Talent of the Year Award jury unanimously recognised Maryah’s ability to turn personal passions into meaningful societal contributions. In addition to her work with Habibi, she has also gained attention as a Nike ambassador, promoting diversity and inclusion in sports. The jury highlighted how Maryah brings the same determination and innovative outlook to the hospitality sector, making her a worthy winner.
"She proves that it’s possible"
Marco ten Hoor, Director of Hotel Management School Leeuwarden, expressed his pride in Maryah’s accomplishment: “Maryah proves that with passion and perseverance, you can overcome barriers. Her story not only showcases her potential but also reflects the ability of our students to bring fresh ideas to the hospitality industry.”
Maryah’s achievement underscores the reputation of Hotel Management School Leeuwarden as a springboard for the next generation of hospitality leaders.
